Nautica is a fashion brand founded in 1983 by David Chu, which was purchased by VF Corporation in 2003 for $US1 billion. Nautica took its name from the Latin word "Nauticus" for ship. David Chu got $100 million from the sale to VF Corporation and remained the CEO and chief designer until 2004.
The company grew from a collection of just 6 sailing jackets at its first fashion show to a global lifestyle brand with products ranging from men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and accessories to perfume and cologne, a complete home collection.
Nautica is sold in more than 64 countries with more than 170 Nautica branded stores worldwide.
