Hanae Mori
Hanae Mori (X pb Mori Hanae, January 8, 1926-) is an internationally recognized fashion designer and business entrepreneur from Japan whose one-woman Tokyo boutique, which opened in 1955, flourished over four decades into a $500 million worldwide fashion empire with operations in Tokyo, Paris and New York. Hanae Mori is Japan's only female fashion designer to show her collections on the runways of Paris and New York and the only Japanese member of France's haute couture syndicate.
In addition to her fashion collections, which often feature the butterfly as a design inspiration, Hanae Mori has designed costumes for motion pictures and operas, as well as the wedding gown of Princess Masako of Japan.
Today, Hanae Mori boutiques offering women's and men's collections are located in the Hotel Okura in Tokyo and in the city's Harajuku area. The Hanae Mori empire today includes a licensed fragrance division, Hanae Mori Parfums, which produces in France several acclaimed fragrances including Hanae Mori Butterfly for women, HM for Men and Hanae Mori Magical Moon for women. Hanae Mori Parfums are widely distributed throughout the United States at stores including Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Macy's and Sephora as well as in Canada at Holt Renfrew stores, in Europe and South America.
